WE TV’s “Match Made in Heaven” promotes the devaluation of
heterosexual women’s self-respect. I’m
probably shocked at this program, or is it a game show, because I’ve never seen
a televised bachelor spectacle before.
It’s really sad to witness dozens of young women collectively vie for
the attention of one man. They dress to
expose their physical assets, utter what they think he wants to hear, and, when
given an opening, stab another sister in the back expecting to ingratiate
herself into the loving favor of the only single heterosexual man on the show.
To determine their worthiness, the bachelor gives the women
particular tasks to perform. Apparently
he is worthy of having a multitude of women to play his games because he is a single,
heterosexual, handsome, financially well-off, muscular, African American male
who also includes his mother and pastor in determining the possible future gift of being his “Mrs.”
Before the final decision is made, it appears he is free to sample all
qualities the women are willing to share. The multiple liaisons are a benefit
to whom? Theoretically, all but one
woman will be dismissed. What, if
anything, have they lost while seeking the favor of this man? This show cheapens and diminishes the female
contestants. I actually was shocked to
hear one nervous woman reveal the possibility of an STD! By the way, he did not exclude her. Then again one should consider the
possibility of STD’s when there is one man possibly sharing himself with a
multitude of women within the same group.
There may be women naïve enough to believe, but it is unlikely that,
this program will result in a ‘Match Made in Heaven’ between one of the lovely women
in this group and the singular sampling bachelor.
WE TV’s
next televised sex fantasy is "Sex Box." Seemingly, couples are
meant to have sex-in-a-box. This type of programming is made to appeal to
whom? Clearly, it is not seeking to positively motivate or encourage
self-respect and sisterhood in girls and women—though it is rare to find a
program that does. Sadly, WE TV appears to be moving into mainstream televised
cable pornography.
You are SOOO RIGHT! Isaw him, mama, and pastor on something...and was just as amazed that this was a show! Unfortunately...the more ridiculous -the more popular !Yes...it has become a sad state of affairs when trying to find a man unless you don't hype yourself with too many expectations!
ReplyDeleteToo often women are persuaded to humiliate and sexualized ourselves...
